Balance The Fire
We've arrived in June in Washington, which means we're slowly crawling out of the gray haze we've become accustomed to over the long winter months. We're waking up to blue skies, flowers in bloom, and a little extra pep in everyone's step. The sun has finally returned, and with it comes the annual temptation to trade our yoga mat for just about any activity that can be done outdoors.
It's a familiar seasonal debate in the Pacific Northwest: How do we fit in every hike, patio dinner, garden project, camping trip, beach day, and evening stroll while still making time for our practice?
Summer is the season of fire. We burn the candle at both ends, trying to squeeze every drop out of these long, sun filled days. While the season is filled with excitement and adventure, it can also leave us feeling depleted, scattered, and fatigued.
This is where our yoga practice comes into play.
Fortunately, yoga isn't something we leave behind for the summer, it's what helps us enjoy the season even more. It keeps us grounded, energized, and present for all the adventures this time of year has to offer. Life is about balance, and not just the physical kind that has us standing on one foot. It's about cultivating inner balance. It's about creating space to pause, breathe, and reconnect with ourselves amidst the excitement and busyness of the season.
Yoga helps us stay centered while life speeds up around us. It replenishes our energy, steadies our minds, and reminds us that balance isn't about doing less, it's about creating the capacity to fully experience all that summer has to offer without running ourselves into the ground.
So as you soak up the sunshine and embrace the magic of a Pacific Northwest summer, remember that your practice isn't competing with the season, it's supporting it!
